Sergei Shubenkov, a 110m hurdles winner at the IAAF World Championships, 2015, held an interactive lecture-presentation in English

 

On October 13 Sergei Shubenkov, a 110m hurdles winner at the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015, three-time European Champion and 2013 World bronze medalist in men's 110 m hurdles as well as the honorable Altai State University alumnus, who took additional language training at the University, held an interactive lecture-presentation in English on the topic "Track and field as my sport and destiny path" for the English language learners. Sergei Shubenkov introduced sports terminology to the listeners, explained the usage and meaning of abbreviations in track and field in men's 60 and 110 m hurdles.

The audience was presented with a number of interviews in English given by the champion after significant events such as flash-interview at the IAAF World Championships, Beijing, August 2015 right after the establishment of the national record. Some video advertising with his participation were also demonstrated. In addition, the interview with Colin Jackson, the track & field legend, who visited the city of Barnaul, was discussed in detail. In this context Sergei Shubenkov appeared in the unusual role of interviewer. In his speech Sergei Shubenkov could not help but note the significance and importance of the English language competence for his successful professional career. He also mentioned the fact that the knowledge of English guarantees participation in various activities related to professional activities directly and indirectly. After Sergei Shubenkov’s talk, he answered numerous questions from the audience. A short photo session was organized thereafter. The meeting was organized by the Sergei Shubenkov’s language teacher Elina Gubernatorova, a PhD in philology, an associate professor.
