The role of English in the professional career of the World Champion
A 110m hurdles winner at the IAAF World Championships, Beijing 2015, three-time European Champion and 2013 World bronze medalist in men's 110 m hurdles, explained the role of English in his career path. Sergey Shubenkov highlighted that the good command of the English language guarantees him additional income and success.

Хочу выразить огромную благодарность нашему педагогу Элине Губернаторовой за учебный курс в целом. У меня была уникальная возможность улучшить свои знания английского языка именно в своей профессиональной среде. Раньше я пробовала посещать различные курсы или занятия с репетитором, но интерес быстро терялся. Здесь же был интересен каждый урок, потому что все темы были нам близки и нам было важно узнавать новые слова, учиться говорить в определенных обстоятельствах. Несомненный плюс был в том, что занятия проходили в группе людей, которые по своему роду деятельности тоже причастны к туризму, было очень интересно общаться на английском языке, обмениваться опытом, знаниями, практиковаться. Для меня данный курс был очень полезен, я расширила словарный запас, я узнала как вести деловую переписку, что говорить и как к кому обращаться в разных ситуациях и т.д. Я бы с удовольствием продолжила обучение в данной сфере.
Ekaterina Paustyan, a PhD student at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary
My name is Ekaterina Paustyan. I am from Barnaul, Russia. I am an alumna of Altai state university. I have a Specialist diploma in International Relations and MA degree in Economics. Currently, I am a PhD student at the Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, Hungary. How I did it? Well, it was really step by step. I started to apply to Master programs at CEU years before I was actually accepted. First, I had to master my writing skills in English before filling in the on-line Application form. I appreciate a lot help of Elina Viktorovna Gubernatorova at this stage. Second, I have to pass TOEFLiBT. I tried it several times and finally succeeded in 2013. I submitted my application together with the TOEFL certificate to a one-year MA program at the Department of Political Science and was accepted. I’ve got a scholarship. My overall progress during one year at CEU was tremendous; in such a short period I learnt how to study effectively and to think critically. So, I decided to stay here for a PhD in Political Economy. Currently I’m a PhD student at the Doctoral School of Political Science, Public Policy and International Relations (Political Economy Track). I’ve also won a scholarship on a competitive basis. As it is said, the dictionary is the only place where success comes before work. So, dream, work hard and be patient! Enjoy learning English in the University Language Centre!

Hello! My name is Anna Sankova.
I studied law in Altai state university and attended TOEFLiBT preparation classes at Altai state university Language Center.
Within one year of studying at Language Center with Elina V. Gubernatorova, I was able to score 109 out 115 on TOEFLiBT. This score is very high and allows to apply to the most prestigious schools in the USA such as Harvard university, MIT, Columbia university and other private institutions.
I graduated from a community college with an associate degree in business administration. You can see my red diploma with merit.
Currently I am persuing a Bachelor’s degree in marketing at Mercy college in NYC.
I’ve also launched a career of a real estate associate at Platinum Properties. This is the biggest real estate brokerage on Wall Street and downtown Manhattan. You can see the beautiful with million dollar listings office behind me.
I strongly believe that my success story started with love for the English language.

I am an alumnus of Altai state university. My major is Computer science and technologies. I’m specializing in software development. It should be stressed the most valuable sources are written in English. Advanced technologies and techniques are mainly presented in the English language reference materials. At present I’m applying for the Master’s degree in Computer science abroad. I passed TOEFLiBT and GRE exams successfully. My special words of gratitude are to the University English language tutors Elina Gubernatorova and Inna Zhogova who improved my language competence.
